Understanding Hypertension?

Now What?
If your doctor says you have a high reading the first time, don't panic. Unless the reading is extremely high, it doesn't necessarily mean you have hypertension. Blood pressure changes throughout the day. When you go for a run, for example, your blood pressure goes up, and when you curl up with a good book in the evening, your blood pressure generally goes down. Some people's blood pressure is elevated simply because they're in the doctor's office and they're anxious to start with - a condition called "white coat" hypertension.
Your doctor will only say you have hypertension after high readings on at least three separate occasions in a six-month period.
